Road to First Smart Contact Lens....getting Smooth

World around us is getting really smart. After smartphones, smartwatches now is the time for Smart Contact Lens. In January Google announced that they are testing a smart contact lens containing a micro-chip that will be used for measuring the sugar levels in the diabetic people. Also it can be used to refocus the image on the retina which we loose with age.
“We’re also investigating the potential for this to serve as an early warning for the wearer, so we’re exploring integrating tiny LED lights that could light up to indicate that glucose levels have crossed above or below certain thresholds.", Google said on their official blog. Google said it hoped the technology would help diabetics around the world by removing the need to perform regular, painful blood test.
Recently the Swiss medical giant Novartis said that they will be developing and marketing the Google made Smart Contact Lens thereby speeding the process of getting it available across the world.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin said: “Our dream is to use the latest technology in the miniaturization of electronics to help improve the quality of life for millions of people. We are very excited to work with Novartis to make this dream come true.”
