HTC One M8 for Windows is out now

The Windows 8 mobile platform has been picking up speed lately and with that the rumours of a Windows device by HTC got confirmed when today HTC brought its One (M8) phone hardware to the Windows Phone platform. 

 For more than a year now the Windows Phone landscape has been has been littered with Nokia devices and in that Lumia has ruled. But now 2 years later, since HTC last Windows device i.e. Windows Phone 8x, its back in the game. It has all the specifications and hardware same as that of the original One M8 released earlier this year, except it is running Windows Phone 8.1 in place of Android 4.4 and HTC's Sense user interface.  It is available starting today exclusively from Verizon Wireless' online store for $99.99 with a new two-year contract, and will be in stores starting tomorrow. 

A review of the specifications first.

• A Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor.

• The front-facing camera is a traditional 5MP shooter, f/2.0 with BSI sensor. 
• 2,600 mAh battery, non-removable 
• Front-facing stereo speakers 

Cortana on HTC One M8 for Windows

Although there are no customizations of the OS like they do on Android, company has developed a number of apps that take advantage of the M8's hardware in Windows Phone. The double-tap-to-wake feature works the same as it does on the Android model, and there is support for wake up and sleep with HTC's Dot View case on the Windows model. 

There are also certain apps that take advantage of the hardware. You can use the stock Windows Phone camera app if you want, or you can use the camera app from HTC. And there's a new Sense TV app to control your home entertainment system. You'll also find BlinkFeed on the HTC One M8 for Windows.

HTC One M8 running WP 8.1 spotted online

As was reported earlier that HTC is bringing a variant of One M8 but it will be running Windows Phone 8.1. After the image of One M8 running WP 8.1 was spotted on Verizon servers another image has been resurfaced and this time on a front page of a Dutch website. 

WPCentral managed to get a screenshot of the image on the website of Dutch Telecom company, Telfort. In one of its visual, Telfort created a blunder by accidently posting an image of One M8 running WP 8.1. It can be seen on the website, on the left hand side partially obscured by other phones.  

It’s the latest evidence that HTC is planning a WP 8.1 version of its flagship device. 

Also there is a press event in New York City on 19th August and these images which keep resurfacing on the internet is a clear hint as to what is going to happen on the day.

Microsoft to launch 2 windows Phone Devices

Get ready for 2 new Windows phones from Microsoft. Reports are that Microsoft is going to launch 2 new smartphones shortly. Verge reported that the sources familiar with company's plan told that the Microsoft Devices chief Stephen Elop revealed both handsets in an internal company meeting. He referenced one of the smartphones as a "selfie phone". This is in accordance of the earlier reports of a device codenamed Superman with a 5-megapixel front camera with a 4.7-inch screen. 

The other device in talks was also seen in earlier reports codenamed Tesla. The images showed it having a Pureview camera. It shows company's effort to provide a Pureview camera at lower prices as well. By the looks it resembles Lumia 930 but is thinner than the latter. 

The recent meeting and Elop displaying the smartphones shows that Microsoft is ready to launch these smartphone and we could hear the official announcement from the company very soon. Apart from Microsoft, there are reports of a Windows Phone version of HTC One M8 whose photos were spotted on Verizon servers. It looks like we will be getting 3 new Windows devices in all the price segments.

After Micromax, Xolo became the second Indian smartphone manufacturer to launch Windows based smartphone, Xolo Win Q900s which is also claimed to be the lightest Windows Phone smartphone in the world with a weight of mere 100gm.

Micromax launches Windows Phones

After the announcement at the Microsoft's Build Conference 2014 held at San Francisco about new OEM's including Micromax, they finally launched 2 new phones in the Canvas series Canvas Win W091 and W121 based on Windows 8.1. These smartphones are priced surprisingly below the Nokia Lumia series and so will be giving a stiff competition in this process segment. The smartphones are priced at Rs. 6,500 and Rs. 9,500 respectively and will be available in the markets from July.
First take a look at the Micromax Canvas Win W121. It has an impressive 5-inch IPS HD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 1.2GHzquad-core processor. It also has 1GB of RAM. The W121 has an 8MP rear camera with flash and a 2MP front camera. It comes with 8GB of capacity expandable to 32GB. It also has dual-sim capability.

Recently the smartphone companies including local brands are looking for alternatives to Google's Android OS. Samsung has already displayed smartphone Samsung Z based on Tizen OS, XOLO and Micromax are working on Windows platform and Intex and Spice are looking to bring Firefox OS in the country.
