Nexus 9 listed on Google Play

Just a day after its global unveiling, Nexus 9 tablet has been listed on Google's Play Store website in India. However, the new Google phone, named Nexus 6, and Google Player has not been listed on the site as of now. 

Only two of the four variants of the Nexus 9 tablet are listed online - with the 16GB WiFi-only model (the basic version) priced at `28,900 and the 32GB cellular model at `44,900. The devices are listed as "coming soon" and there is no information as to when they will go on sale in India. But speculations are that the devices will be available in India in the month of November itself, in line with the global launch. 

The 32GB WiFi-only and the 16GB cellular models are currently not available in the country.

“Nexus 6 will come to 28 countries, including India, across Europe, Asia Pacific and North America, starting later this year and as we head into Q1,” Motorola said in a statement. So we hope along with global launch it too will be available in India. Check out the full coverage here. 

Among the chief competitors of Google Nexus 9 in India are Apple iPad Air 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. So let’s wait and watch.

HTC Desire Eye and Re Camera pricing announced

After releasing the new HTC Desire Eye and the Re Camera, HTC today at its event in Mumbai, announced the Desire EYE in India. 

To recap on the smartphones specifications, the Desire EYE flaunts a 5.2-inch full HD 1080p display and is powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Check out full details here. The Desire Eye will go on sale tomorrow for `38,990. It will be available exclusively on Amazon. 

RE action camera was launched at an introductory price of `9,990, and the company says it will be exclusively available via Snapdeal in the first week of November. The highlight of the RE device is the 16-megapixel sensor that can click or record with a 146-degree ultra-wide angle lens (f/2.8). The camera can record 1080p video at 30fps. Notably, HTC says the new RE device is a waterproof device with IPX7 certification, while the listing also claims that the waterproof cap enhances the RE's rating to IPX8. Check out its full review here.

Desire Eye is powered by a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage expandable via microSD card, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 2,400mAh battery. The screen is a 5.2-inch 1080p display and have HTC’s signature BoomSound speakers. The device itself comes in two colours, coral reef (white with orangish red trim) and blue lagoon (dark blue with light blue trim). 

The Desire Eye will be the first device to offer a new bundle of camera tricks called the Eye Experience, which will become available on a large number of HTC devices soon. Most of the new features listed are neither ground-breaking nor essential, but can help you get a little more creative with your shots. One of the coolest features is a clever new face-tracking technique for video conference calls that can find up to four faces and display each of them on their very own frame. 

The HTC Desire EYE is expected as early as November in the U.S., where it will be sold as an exclusive on AT&T at first, and HTC will also sell it in other markets around the world.

HTC RE Camera Unveiled - A Challenger for GoPro

HTC ventured into a new category of devices yesterday when they unveiled Re, a small and portable camera with a unique purpose and an even more unique form factor. 

The device looks like an inhaler but it’s actually a small, portable and a powerful camera. HTC said that it’s completely different from GoPro, which seems to be matching the devices utility. They said that the goal of Re is to allow folks to enjoy special moments like a child’s soccer game, a concert, a swim in the pool, without having to worry about blocking their entire vision while recording behind a smartphone. 

The camera itself is a 16-megapixel shooter with a 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor, a 146-degree f/2.8 wide-angle lens. So we won’t have to worry about maintaining the focus on the object we intend to shoot. It weighs just 65.5 grams and has a battery backup of about 1hr and 40min of continuous FHD shooting or 1,200 photos. Its IPX7 certified so taking it while surfing won’t be an issue. 

The thing that HTC focused is it’s not depending on a PC to transfer photos and videos from Re to your smartphone. The Re app available for both Android and iOS will make the photos available on your device instantly. Also they will be sending regular updates to improve its functioning and to add much more features like Real-time video broadcast which in partnership with YouTube will be available in the coming months. 

Re will be available globally but no time line has been decided but for US, it is set to retail for $199.99 in major retailers later this month, including Best Buy, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, HTC.com and Amazon, and will be available with a number of accessories including a bike mount, lanyard and more.

HTC launched first 64-bit processor Desire 820 in India

HTC today launched India’s first 64-bit processor smartphones. They launched the new Desire 816g, Desire 820 and Desire 820q smartphones in India. The Desire 816g, a dual-SIM smartphone, will be available from next month for `18,990. HTC hasn't revealed pricing of the Desire 820 and 820q yet, but confirmed the availability in early November. 

At IFA 2014 HTC unveiled its Desire 820 powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC with integrated 4G LTE Cat. 4 connectivity. And today it was the highlight of the event. A dual-sim smartphone, it will be running the latest Android KitKAt out of the box. It features a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display. It has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The device has 13 MP rear camera with with f/2.2 aperture and BSI sensor, and 8MP front camera. The Desire 820 also features HTC’s BoomSound technology with its two front facing speakers. 

The Desire 820q has the same hardware specifications but is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor and has 1GB RAM. 

The Desire 816G on the other hand is nearly identical to the Desire 816 which was launched at `23,990 in India in April - but notably does not feature LTE connectivity. The dual-SIM Desire 816G also comes with a slower 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, instead of the Desire 816's 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU. HTC back in tablet market with the new Nexus 9

HTC was out of making tablets and Nexus device for quite some time but it seems like this is about to change. Rumours have been around that HTC is involved in making the new Nexus 9 tablet an now a recent The Wall Street Journal post has made it all clear. 

The Journal says that HTC engineers have been flying back and forth between Mountain View and their Taiwanese base as the two companies collaborate on the development of the new 9-inch device. The choice may seem unusual, as HTC lacks a strong tablet track-record and focuses almost exclusively on smartphones. But on the other hand, HTC has emerged quite strong in making large phones and have been quite successful in it. HTC One and HTC One M8 were the company’s 2 flagships which received heartiest welcome from the consumers. 

Also in NVIDIA’s own legal filings, the company specifically names the new Nexus device, claiming it will be powered by a Tegra K1 processor, expected to see release in Q3 of this year and will be powered by Tegra K1 which we have been hearing quite often, but with NVIDIA stating it themselves, we no longer have to rely on rumours for that information. 

As for the release date Paul O’Brien tweeted that it might be 16th October. On the contrary PC Advisor reports that HTC is holding an event in New York on 8th October which could be the launch day of the new Nexus. Whatever date it may be these October dates all fall with earlier leaked Q3 period of the year.

HTC One M8 for Windows is out now

The Windows 8 mobile platform has been picking up speed lately and with that the rumours of a Windows device by HTC got confirmed when today HTC brought its One (M8) phone hardware to the Windows Phone platform. 

 For more than a year now the Windows Phone landscape has been has been littered with Nokia devices and in that Lumia has ruled. But now 2 years later, since HTC last Windows device i.e. Windows Phone 8x, its back in the game. It has all the specifications and hardware same as that of the original One M8 released earlier this year, except it is running Windows Phone 8.1 in place of Android 4.4 and HTC's Sense user interface.  It is available starting today exclusively from Verizon Wireless' online store for $99.99 with a new two-year contract, and will be in stores starting tomorrow.

Cortana on HTC One M8 for Windows

Although there are no customizations of the OS like they do on Android, company has developed a number of apps that take advantage of the M8's hardware in Windows Phone. The double-tap-to-wake feature works the same as it does on the Android model, and there is support for wake up and sleep with HTC's Dot View case on the Windows model. 

There are also certain apps that take advantage of the hardware. You can use the stock Windows Phone camera app if you want, or you can use the camera app from HTC. And there's a new Sense TV app to control your home entertainment system. You'll also find BlinkFeed on the HTC One M8 for Windows.

HTC's new flagship Butterfly J launched in Japan

HTC CEO Peter Chou today in Tokyo unveiled the company’s latest flagship smartphone for Japan, the new J Butterfly (HTL23) available on KDDI. This one is based on the HTC One M8 sold elsewhere in the world but a few tweaks.

The phone has much in common with the excellent HTC One (M8) released in the rest of the world earlier this year like the latest HTC Sense 6 experience, HTC Duo Camera for advanced imaging, and an intuitive Motion Launch advanced sensor, the new HTC Butterfly 2 delivers an unparalleled smartphone experience. The smartphone comes equipped with a Duo Camera that features a 13MP camera (rather than the M8’s four-“UltraPixel” unit), a dual flash, and Full 1080p HD Video Recording, producing incredible images and rich, high-quality video. A 5MP front-facing camera also captures superior quality photos, taking beautiful selfies with ease. 

But the J Butterfly has a few tweaks that bring it in line with local expectations — it’s waterproof and dustproof, with features like a TV tuner, mobile wallet support, and infrared connectivity.  In order to get the phone to be waterproof the dual front BoomSound speakers had to be sacrificed. It is available in 3 colour variants – blue, white and red. 

Other than that, this is more or less the same phone as the One M8. It has the same 5-inch, 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 SoC, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal memory with microSD card slot, 5 megapixel front facing camera, 4G LTE and Android 4.4. It also supports the HTC Dot View Case. 

The new HTC J Butterfly will be available in Japan on KDDI in late August. Also the company  announced that phone will go on sale in Taiwan on September 2nd which will be followed by the launch in Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand soon after.
