One Finnish smartphone manufacturer is about to go into the history books and another is launching in India. Microsoft is killing Nokia’s Android Project and firing about 18,000 employees making it one of the biggest layoffs in the history and Jolla Smartphones is making its way into the country very soon.
Finnish
smartphone company Jolla has partnered with Indian e-commerce giant Snapdeal to
launch in India. Jolla’s smartphones runs Sailfish OS which evolved from Nokia
backed OS, Meego. Well Nokia won’t be totally lost after all.
The
Jolla smartphones with its distinct button-less design. It’s a gesture heavy
interface. Another feature that makes it quite a catch is its compatibility
with Android Applications which will make it desirable for many enthusiast. “India
is the rising smartphone market of the world and we look forward to welcoming
many new Jolla fans across the country,” said Sami Pienimäki, co-founder and
CMO of Jolla, which was founded in 2011.
With
Firefox OS launching this July and Sailfish OS in line, Indian customers will
get quite a variety in terms of OS. “The market in India offers few choices in
terms of mobile operating systems. Jolla with its innovative Sailfish OS
introduces an entirely new user experience to consumers. Jolla offers a unique
smartphone experience both in terms of hardware and software. We look forward
to a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship”, said Kunal Bahl,
co-founder and CEO of Snapdeal.
Indian
mobile market is now giving a huge number of choices to the consumers in terms
of budget smartphones and recent foray of companies like Asus, Xiaomi and
coming of Firefox has just raised the bar.
